1. Somewhere in the Country- a hark back to the primitive, the source, the country, you dig? you gotta start things simple
somewhere in the country

sweat until it runs through the Earth
under the willow tree
laying in the shade

2. Lost in the Woods- what if you awoke in the middle of the night lost in the woods?

cold winds blow outside my nose but I'm not going back there
what arises in the forest pine
shadows everywhere
I can see where moonlight traces
there for the grace go I
hiding in my hiding place
awake before the dawn
nightingale your songs impale my sense of reasoning
somewhere near the footsteps clearly
break my imagination


3. Gutter Rat- the derelict, the rummy, the wino, the poor soul who couldnt take the wind up grind of modern life

5. Lake Mirror at Night (interlude)- solitude by water and traffic

7. Lighthouse-the vigil, for all good things take time

you drink from the river that leads to the sea
high in the lighthouse I'll wait til you come back to me
tears from another day I drink into the night
tears they will blind me until I lose all my sight

8. The Flower Stall- a pretty girl selling flowers and you want her to see you

waking late I pull my shade to welcome the sun
out the door I make my way
all the faces that I meet as I pass them on my feet
looking for the flower stall
she sells the brightest roses
the fragrance holds the memory
of the summer days in town
and the thorns in her floral crown

9. Older Children- your parents, and you, eventually.

they worked hands to the bone
after school dont forget to phone
making sure that laughter had its place
wipe that dirty look right off your face
dont believe what you say
what have you done with the day
stole another pack of cigarettes
still havent cleaned yet I'm so upset
your room is such a mess
everyday is just the same
older children are to blame
flying every past time to the moon
everything you loved is in a balloon


10. Kentucky Avenue- every city has one

come inside we have common ground
day and night there is life to the sound
the artist sings and the beggars mumble proud
roll the stone where no one can be found
when you really need someone to help you through

alight with life in strength of night the clock has chimed the time is right
convalescence spoke of incense the body burns with freedom for extasis
